Yeah man, I don't know what to tell you. I guess I can appreciate that all that meta stuff was in there, that high concept stuff...it's intelligent and meaningful I suppose, but it didn't help me enjoy the movie at all.

I'm glad you enjoyed it though.

Here I am, all set to point out that these characters are representative of different aspects of Max, especially Carol who perfectly apes Max's resentment of his mothers dating, ultimately telling the story of how hard it can be to express one's self with all the conflicting feelings people go through, while throwing in the lesson that you have to rise above your own concerns and realize that everyone has problems that we can try and help out with (though I may be projecting a bit with that one, I got to the end of the movie and I was hoping for a "Max puts a blanket over sleeping mum" bit, but that didn't really happen, maybe I pretend like it did)

Anyways- but then you go ahead and mention that this stuff exists in the movie and just don't care. Wha-?

As far as the target audience goes, I'm going to have to give it to those young adults who remember what growing up is like, it'd be pretty hard to sit a kid in front of this movie and say "are you notalgic for when was like this for you yet?"

And it is weird how many people have read the book, I haven't either. Which I naturally have to bring up to avoid a "rose coloured glasses" rebuttal
