How long has it been since your last confession? Maya Rabinovich’s I Will Not Hatch! brilliantly weaves together the sinful, dirty little secrets of nine passengers on a plane.

Fun and well crafted, the piece centres around Suzie, an extremely neurotic flyer who has memorized the dates and casualties of every plane crash in 2009. Despite this knowledge, she boards a plane and notices a nervous passenger with a briefcase and perceives that he’s up to no good. All hell breaks loose when Suzie assaults him with a plastic fork for the protection of her fellow passengers. The actors sing, monologue, and harmonize their way through their “final confessions” brilliantly. The group is a cohesive collective, working together in a kind of jam session of words and stories.

It was impressive to see such an in-tune and ego-free ensemble. All actors gave their fellows full attention during individual times to shine and worked well within the group dynamic, each bringing their own stamp to the production as a whole. Their voices were amazingly strong and Maja Rabinovich’s writing kept it all afloat.

A very entertaining and cleverly woven piece.
