I am liking Blackest Night as well -- but to be more specific, I am liking the Blackest Night mini series and the Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps tie ins. All the other Blackest Night money grab mini series and special issues are quickly gaining ground in my Crimes Against Storytelling List.

The sheer volume of Blackest Night related crap is just stunning in its abundance and repetitiveness. If I have to read one more goddamn comic where a hero encounters a dead version of someone they were close to in life, I will punch a baby. I am not kidding. I will find a baby and fucking punch it. And that will be on YOU, Geoff Johns, for starting this neverending trend, and YOU Didio, for seeing the success of Blackest Night and crying "MORE!"

The entire process is just so boring now; hero sees zombie friend/partner/lover, is confused, zombie person says mean stuff to make the hero feel bad, hero is confused, hero comes to realization that this isn't really their dead friend come to life but something else, zombie tries to eat hero's heart, fails and then presumably wanders off, despite the fact that they're super strong and literally cannot be stopped or even injured in any way. This has literally happened in every DC series that has come out in three months.

Not only that, but I don't think the majority of writers are clued in to what Johns is doing, because every Black Lantern creature does something weird or off-character in comparison to the way they act in the main series. It's such an obvious and obviously not very well thought out cash grab. Blech.

So, yes. Blackest Night is good but all the tertiary stories involving it need to go away.
