The votes are in, the results are mildly surprising.

So that’s a wrap. We had a good run: lots of lists, some of our favourite guest writers returned, and best of all we got to geek out debating who the best Marvel characters of all time were. So now let’s weigh in with the results.

Not surprisingly, Spider-Man emerged the favourite. He is easily Marvel’s most recognizable character, and with good reason. What was shocking, however, was how close it was. Topping three lists, Daredevil was right on Spidey’s heels to come in at number 2. Numbers 3 and (tied for) 4 were both relative newcomers… well, sort of. Winter Soldier has certainly been around for a while, but it’s his recent character-makeover that got him where he is on our list. And Bendis’ creation (Jessica Jones) did very well, too. Then we’ve got one of the most loveable characters and one of the classic villains as the other (tied for) number 4 and the 5th ranking. But enough chatter, let’s look at the list.
8. (TIE) Wolverine (James Howlett)
8. (TIE) Cyclops (Scott Summers)
8. (TIE) Captain America (Steve Rogers)
7. Iron Man (Tony Stark)
6. Doctor Doom (Victor Von Doom)
4. (TIE) Kitty Pryde
4. (TIE) Jessica Jones
3. Winter Soldier/Captain America (Bucky Barnes)
2. Daredevil (Matt Murdock)
1. Spider-Man (Peter Parker)
We also had some creative entries, with writers choosing some alternative versions of characters (Ultimate Spider-Man and 1602 Nick Fury) and one writer even choosing Jack Kirby for his list, noting that Kirby has appeared in some comics as himself.
It’s been a blast getting these lists up, and if any readers have any suggestions for more comic list extravaganzas we could do in a few months, leave them in the comments and we just might get to them.

I don’t get how Daredevil could even come close to Spidey. He’s always been sort of…meh, for me. If you ask me, #6-8 should be well ahead of any on the list except spidey. /shrug
Daredevil is meh?
I can’t get why I approved this comment because you are clearly misinformed about how awesome Daredevil is.
Have you read even read him in the last seven years? From Smith to Bendis to Brubaker, this is one comic that has remained consistently good for the better part of a decade. I don’t think you can say that about any other long-running hero. And why is his comic good? Because Daredevil is awesome.
