And, for the second week in a row, we have a review in love-letter form. Okay, not so much love-letter as cease-and-desist-order. Yes, it’s the B-52’s.* No kidding, huh? And they even manage to look sexy, in a no-really-we’re-not-geriatric way. Stick this up beside Madonna’s Hard Candy and we’ll see whose fake-nailed death-grip on pop relevance is harder to pry away. (Yes, please, review Madonna for us! It’ll make a great hat-trick to go with the R.E.M. review coming up next week.)
I can’t even tell you how excited I am about MONDOmusic these days. Seriously, it’s getting kind of messy each time I sit down in front of the laptop. This great combination we’ve got going of new and old, new-sounding-old, new-getting-old-fast, old-that-should-never-have-been-new, wow-how-are-you-fitting-into-that-corset… Oops, derailed.
For me, a bunch of bands I dabbled with a few years back but never heard more of (Kid Dakota, Helio Sequence, Karate — now Glorytellers, a long-awaited Notwist…) are now rocking my world once again. For those of us with more nostalgic pop sensibilities, well, it goes both ways, really. Stay tuned for the R.E.M. review, as it’ll make great fodder for comparison to this week’s attack. Excited!
Now, if only I had a Police Reunion Tour review to go with the Spice Girls article from a few weeks back

* No, they haven’t officially decided to drop the grammatically incorrect apostrophe. I really, really, really wish they would, though.

AH! But if you look at the cover for “Funplex”, that horrid apostrophe has been stricken from their logo! Looks like Fred ‘n’ Cindy bought they-selves a dictionary.
That doesn’t excuse the album itself, but I mean, it’s a step in the right direction.
It’s true, their new printed stuff is apostrophe-free, but half their websites aren’t. Hence the “officially” — it’s still in debate, as far as I know.
